Emily Levine, Intern

ABOUT ME

I am a graduate-level intern completing my Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Northwestern University, with expected graduation in June 2024. In my counseling practice, I strive to build a welcoming, collaborative, and playful relationship where my clients can explore and grow.

I embrace the counseling profession’s emphasis on growth, wellness, and empowerment by providing care, advocacy, and resources to my clients. I see self-care as a radical act, with the capacity to ignite change on a personal and societal level. I am committed to unpacking how systematic factors like racism and sexism affect wellness, and believe it is essential to examine the ways in which these forces impact clients’ lives and relationships. I welcome clients of all races, genders, ages, religions, and sexualities.

THERAPEUTIC FOCUS: GENDER, SEXUALITY, FEMINIST AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

My approach to therapy is deeply rooted in gender, sexuality, feminist, and social justice theory, which I studied at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. After completing my undergraduate degree, I moved to Chicago and began my career in behavioral health and psychotherapy. I have clinical experience working with depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation and self harm, body image and eating disorders, intimate partner violence, and youth and adolescents in both residential and outpatient settings. In my professional training, I have realized my passion for perinatal mental health and expanded my realm of competence to include sexual identity and wellness, relationship dynamics, and aging.

From a person-centered, strengths-based perspective, I utilize evidence-based treatment interventions to provide trauma-informed, ethical care. Guided by what resonates best with the client, I gravitate toward Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychodynamics, and body-based/somatic mindfulness in my work.

I am able to offer psychotherapy services at significantly reduced sliding-scale rates. Finances should not be a barrier to your healing. Please reach out to our Billing Department to discuss how we can make therapy accessible for you. I also offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to see how I can help you.
